Merriment in Manayunk

Living in or around Manayunk, Pennsylvania presents the opportunity to attend one of the charming neighborhood’s many unique festivals. The festivals themselves can be broken into three main categories. Be forewarned, though, if you don’t live there, you may be tempted to look for available apartments in Manayunk for yourself.

Food

Many Manayunk’s festivals center around food and drink. In January, local Founders Brewery helps turn Main Street into an icy playground. Local businesses all turn out in February to support Girl Scouts with Girl Scout Cookie-inspired food and beverage offerings and boxes of the confections available everywhere. April boasts two festivals to tempt your taste buds: a day-long street fair with 50 plus food vendors/trucks and Restaurant Week when, for a fixed price, you can enjoy three courses from various local eateries.

But wait! Restaurant Week reprises itself in September with fall-inspired menus and ingredients. Capping off the food and beverage festivals is October’s Cocktail Week where local bars and restaurants tempt you with food/beverage pairings, competitions and special tastings.

Fun

Don’t worry, there’s plenty of good food and drink at the festivals not dedicated to your enjoyment of both. In April, celebrate the national official opening of the various trails people use to walk, bike and run. June plays host more than 300 artists during the weekend-long Arts Festival. Each Thursday in June, July and August, is Stroll the Street. You can find specials all along Manayunk’s Main Street. August also boasts the Dog Day of Summer, a festival that celebrates all things canine!

Festivities

Holidays in Manayunk are a special time of celebration. Halloween has become a favorite of locals and visitors alike. Area businesses encourage safe trick-or-treating on Main Street. Small Business Saturday in November has also grown into an event worth visiting. Over 50 local small businesses run specials that day. Of course, the neighborhood does Christmas up right, too. Festive decorations, a fun run, local specials and of course, a tree lighting are highlights December offers leading right up to the big day.

Regardless of your interest, you’re bound to find something to satisfy you in Manayunk. While their festivals are a fantastic time to visit, be sure to look around while you’re there so you can see what else the growing neighborhood has to offer you.
