Crowd Control

March 30th, 2011

Everywhere we go we are faced daily with waiting in line. Whether it is at the grocery store, bank, coffee shop, or nightclub; lines are a part of life. But what gives us a sense that we need to form a line? How come people just do not cut in front of each other? We do not because we are a civilized society that takes pride in some politeness. The other reason is because of crowd control and barricades.

Maintaining a sense of order and control are the main purposes of crowd control. Imagine life without barricades at an amusement park. There would be no rhyme or reason to whose turn it would be in line. Some banks use those all so familiar velvet rope and the customers wait patiently for their turn with the bank teller. Or how about at a concert and there are stanchions placed strategically so the patrons follow some kind of order.

Our lives are filled with lines and of course we are not always happy to be waiting in them. Having crowd control helps sustain some order and tact in our daily lives. Think about a grocery store without a line barricade. There would be all kinds of groceries and coupons flying and the customers would probably be arguing.

With a world that has so many people we need crowd control. Being polite is not always at the top of everyone’s list in this fast paced time. But we need to slow down and take time to be nice, take turns and appreciate those barriers that are set up everywhere we go. Our society really is better because of them!
