What Are Rain Chains?
Rain chains are a great way to decorate your garden, originally used in ancient Japan these chains are avidly becoming popular all around the world. Besides being able to decorate your garden by giving it an elegant appearance with one of these chains, rain chains also serve another purpose that makes them essential for every gardener to have one dangling around their plants.
The rain chain is an alternative to your typical downspout that is normally attached to the bottom end of your gutter on your home. Downspouts are what are used to funnel all of the water that was collected from rain water down to the ground. These spouts help prevent water from accumulating in one large spot, and also ensure that your garden is properly watered.
Basically what a rain chain, or chains rain are is they are a collection of cups and chain links that serve the same primary purpose as a typical downspout. The only thing that sets these chains a part from downspouts is the fact that they portray a more elegant appeal.
These chains operate in the same way as a normal downspout would. Rain will travel from your gutter into the cup that is attached to the chain. All of the cups have a series of holes in them that allows the rain to flow down to the next cup, and then the next.
The rain basically travels through these series of cups until it reaches the ground. Inadvertently, once the rain has reached the ground after traveling through these cups it will ensure that the ground around it gets an avid supply of rain water.
Most gardeners will generally keep their gardens close to the gutters of their homes in order to take advantage of natural rain water. A rain chain will add an extra appeal of decadence to your garden, and still serve the same initial purpose as downspouts do.
