I have a wedding planning business and while I don't need to capture photos as perfect as the Photographer is required to do, I do need to capture the look of the day, the venue, the setting of the ceremony, the table settings, the entertainment and the general atmosphere of the day for my own portfolio and I find the D40 is perfect for my requirements. If I was just starting out in photography I would definately try and get an SLR and a D40 is an excellent beginer's choice. I especially like the battery life on the Nikons, lasts for ages!
